Water for industry

Ion exchangers

Exchanger materials are resins which are resistant to water and to regenerating chemicals and which have the ability to exchange their deposited ions with ions present in water.

In the application the exchange and regeneration process takes place in closed areas (filters).

Decisive for the exchange process are the active groups integrated in the exchanger material:

These exchangers enable the softening, partial desalination and full desalination of water in a single filter system (softening, partial desalination) or multistage filter system (full desalination).

The active groups are able to exchange either positively loaded cations with deposited hydrogen ions or negatively loaded anions with deposited hydroxyl ions..

Weakly acidic cation exchangers:

The weakly acidic cation exchangers can only exchange the weakly acidic cations with deposited H+ ions. They can therefore only be used to exchange cations with hydrogen carbonates.

Strongly acidic cation exchangers:

The strongly acidic cation exchangers can be used for softening as Na exchangers (regeneration with cooking salt) and also for decationisation as H exchangers (regeneration with acids).

Weakly alkaline anion exchangers:

The weakly alkaline exchangers are almost only used in connection with strongly acidic cation exchangers.

Strongly alkaline anion exchangers:

The strongly alkaline exchangers exchange the anions of strong mineral acids and also the anions of weak mineral acids.
